Victoria’s Duathlon FAQ’S
(formerly known as the Brick)I heard that the name of the race changed. How come?
We at Trisport wanted to honour a dear little girl who lost her life in a terrible accident . She is the daughter of Ed and Martha D’Agostino and the sister of Matthew and Emily. Ed has been the long time race director of this event and puts his heart and soul into making this event the best it can be. This is our way of keeping Victoria’s memory alive. After the event there will be a table set up for contribution’s to the Victoria D’Agostino Children’s Benefit Fund. The funds will be used to purchase book prizes for deserving children. The theme of the fund is “From our children, For our children.”
Has anything else changed about the race?
Yes- the location of the staging of the entire event has changed. We will no longer be inside the Laurel Creek Conservation Area. We are now hosting the event at the Fellowship Community Church. They have kindly offered us use of their facility.
The date of the race has also changed from last year. We have moved the date one week later and it is now on the holiday Monday instead of a Sunday event. Its also appropriate that Victoria's Duathlon is also now on Victoria's Day!
What’s the first thing I should do when I get to the race site?
The first thing is to find parking. Follow the parking signs and be very careful not to park on the edge of the roads. There will be plenty of parking on the church property.
How many waves are there in this race?
Traditionally there are 7 waves at this race. Full info will be in the pre-race newsletter.
What is a wave?
Since there are at least 700 athletes all doing the same race we can’t have you all starting at the same time . We divide up the waves the Wed before the event . Typically there will be roughly 100 people per wave all starting at 3 minute intervals. We will post the wave starts by Thursday morning on the homepage of our website so you can see when you will be starting ahead of time.
Where do athletes get their timing chips and bodymarking?
At the SportStats tent located near the transition area
Where do I put my race number while competing?
Please have your race number pinned to your front when you cross the finish line. This helps us tremendously with timing. If you have access to a “race belt” this is very beneficial as you can put the belt on after the swim segment – spin your # around to your back for the bike and then spin it around again for the run. Race belts can be purchased at our Northwest Mutual Fund Information Tent leading up to or afer the event.
Are there special instructions to Relay competitors?
There is not too much that is different. When you are all assembled before the race begins - go pick up your timing chip. There is only one chip per team. The chip gets exchanged between segments of the race only if the participant changes. The exchange is made at the bike rack inside the transition area. The relay bike rack is separate from the age group racks. Please try and stay out of the way of other participants as much as possible when making the switch.
Where will results be posted?
A copy will be posted on the Oberto results board near the finish line.
Where and when is the post race food and awards ceremony?
Depending on the weather forecast we will either be set up outside or inside the church fellowship hall. The awards ceremony will not begin until most of the participants are done their race so everyone can enjoy the festivities. So approximately 2:00 pm.
